Taliaferro Family – Standing with the Next Generation of Girl Scouts
“[We give because] Girl Scouts has a great synergy within the community with all the connections it makes and the opportunities our daughter has. Plus, the organization is well managed, there are good people involved and the money goes to good use,” Kathryn Taliaferro said. Girl Scout dad Henry, Girl Scout alumna, Kathryn and Girl Scout daughter, Caroline, believe in the power of Girl Scouting because of the opportunities it provides for girls to thrive and have become members of Daisy’s Circle to support the mission.
Kathryn is the troop leader for Caroline’s Girl Scout Junior Troop 3084 from Blue Valley, KS and sees firsthand the work that Girl Scouts does to help girls become G.I.R.L.s (Go-getters. Innovators. Risk-takers. Leaders.)TM. “The opportunities that are available now are amazing, especially with community partners. [Girl Scouts] has already reached out and made connections with organizations that have resources that we need,” Kathryn said. On top of the opportunities, Girl Scouts has given Caroline the courage to break out of her shell and shine.
While once a shy girl, Caroline found courage in the “challenge of choice” at camp. Initially scared of doing zipling, the support of her Girl Scout sisters and the camp staff gave her the strength to make the leap. It was a proud moment for Kathryn to see her daughter grow as a woman of confidence right before her eyes.
The family supports Girl Scouts through Daisy’s Circle and loves the hands-on engagement it offers. They attended a site visit at Emerson Elementary to meet some of the Outreach Girl Scouts that Daisy’s Circle supports! It was a great opportunity that connected the family with the mission and gave Kathryn a few ideas for her next troop meeting!
